Teaching Assistant opportunities

We have been getting several questions on available TA opportunities during the MBA program. I will try to summarize few of the salient points:
- Availability: Many professors offer TA positions for their classes. These opportunities are generally for one quarter only though some professors prefer to keep the same TA for several quarters.
- Eligibility: To be eligible, one should have already taken the course earlier and should have performed at the top of the class. Several professors consider applicants who have not taken the course. Many professors would prefer to hire their PhD students for teaching assistants.
- Benefits: Varies but for a course you might get close to $5K assuming you work for 20 hours/week. Many times, the school offers some tution waivers as well if you are a TA. You also manage to work closely with the professor and the learning opportunities are excellent.
- Downside: 20 hours/week is a herculean commitment. You may end up burning midnight oil when severaal of your classmates are partying.
Let us know if you have any questions.
